In September 2020, Magalu launched a Trainee Program for Black People, a pioneering initiative in Brazil. The purpose was to address the underrepresentation of black people in leadership positions by taking a special temporary affirmative action aligned with the commitment to equal opportunities.

This initiative became a symbol of the fight for equality and changed the course of the conversation about inclusion in Brazil.
The program was a milestone in discussions about diversity and inclusion in Brazil’s corporate environment. On the day of the announcement, 70 articles were published. Over the next two days, more than 500 copies on the initiative were produced by Brazil Journal, O Globo, Exame, CNN, and GloboNews. Between September and December 2020, over 4,000 news reports were published, including the cover story of Folha de S.Paulo, which described the selection process and the trainees’ journey, and an article published by The New York Times, considering the program a milestone in the debate on workplace inclusion.
